The range of polystyrene products

General Trading S.p.A.'s range of polystyrene products includes standard and high-impact grades. Products are classified into base products, special products and products with specific additives. The different groups are: :

- Standard polystyrene which differs in fluidity, in heat-deviation temperature and in rigidity, including anti-static applications, as well as applications for injection moulding, extrusion and rolling.

- High-impact polystyrene which has different hardness and fluidity levels, for injection moulding and extrusion.

Polystyrene is resistant to water, alcohol and diluted mineral acids and also to aqueous solutions of the majority of salts. However it does expand in some organic solvents and dissolves in others. This is true of hydrocarbons, ethers, esters and aromatic and chlorinated ketones.

Polystyrene is attacked by concentrated sulphuric acid and by strong oxidizing agents, for example nitric acid, chlorine water, bromine water and sodium hypochlorite solutions.
